VEZO

The Vezo people are a nomadic tribe living along the west coast of Madagascar, principally in the region of Tuléar. They are one of the last nomadic tribes remaining on the island with the Mikea tribe, and they survive largely by fishing. They follow the currents of the water, steering their canoes which look like delicate birds along the horizon. We refer to them as nomads of the sea, and the shape of their crafts recalls their distant roots in Indonesia. The Vezo collection of scented, hand decorated candles celebrates this small tribe of nomadic people with crocheted, artisanal raffia, patterned with fish motifs.
